18K Gold Plating

18K Gold Plating

The Gold Standard — Five-Layer 18K Gold Plating

Not all gold is created equal. We use a PVD gold-plating process that bonds genuine 18K gold over a titanium-nitride base — for a finish that stays chemically stable, warm in tone, and firmly bonded to the case.

Will the Gold Finish Fade?

The short answer: with normal wear and proper care, it holds its luster for the long term.

Unlike the thin “flash plating” common in the market — a shallow surface coating that wears through more readily — we use a thicker, layered process. With everyday wear and sensible care, the finish keeps its color and depth for years. Any plated finish changes slightly over long-term use; that is normal, and our process is built to slow it as much as possible — not to promise it never happens.

The Anatomy of a Lasting Finish

From the base metal to the surface, each layer earns its place.

  • I

    The Base · 904L Steel

We build on 904L steel rather than standard 316L alloy — more corrosion-resistant, and a stable foundation for the plating to bond to.

  • II

The Bonding Layer · Titanium Nitride

A titanium-nitride layer hardens the surface and strengthens adhesion for the precious-metal plating above it, helping to resist flaking.

The Surface · Genuine 18K Gold (Five Layers)

Genuine gold applied to a meaningful micron thickness — built to stand up to daily contact and humidity, with a warm, lasting tone.

How It Compares

The difference is in the material and the method — and time tends to tell.

Specification Standard Replica Market NewCloneWatches
Base Metal 316L steel (softer) 904L steel (more corrosion-resistant)
Plating Method Flash plating (thin coat) PVD gold plating (thicker coat)
Wear Over Time Tends to wear through sooner Long-wearing, with proper care
Everyday Care Requires extra caution A soft, dry cloth is enough
